StoryCorps App Reviews

I love the StoryCorps idea and have been interviewing my 91 year old Dad but the app is lacking functionality. I try to get my family to follow me but the app does not allow you to search for keywords without scrolling through a list of hundreds of words. Not very practical. Also if you want to follow someone you cant do it from the app. People want to listen to stories on the go so the app needs to be better designed so people can find the interviews they are looking for.

this app doesnt launch properly in ios 10. the start page says swipe or tap to start but it doesnt recognize any input at all.

I recently used the app to run The Great Thanksgiving Listen project with my 10th grade history students. Each of them recorded a grandparent or adult in their lives using the app, and then we uploaded them all with a special classroom keyword. The app functionality was fairly basic but the process of recording/uploading for all 45 of my students was successful (I believe theyve done some major updates on this process since last thanksgiving!). Once we uploaded the interviews, my students did all of the photos, keywording and description writing through the website version of the app at storycorps.me. Much easier than typing on phones and the interface was more comprehensive. This is a great curriculum for history and social studies classrooms and Im so glad I found out about it!

I recorded myself talking about a cat that has recently passed. I heard about this and thought it would be a great way for people to remember him. When I go back to the app to listen to it I find that its gone! The story I told was very meaningful to me and now its gone. Im very sad and I dont think I will be using this app again.

What sdcsailing said plus the need for a search function. While the filter keywords is nice it is a bit cumbersome to find a specific item

It totally froze my phone when I started using it, and I have the new iPhone 6s. Also, Id like to be able to edit posts/etc

I have students using this because the idea is worth promoting. I am beyond frustration at this apps (iOS) inability to upload. Everyone gets excited only to come to a very disappointing app. Please fix as soon as you are able. I want this app to succeed.

Terrible User interface. No link to sample questions in instructions or anything that comes up when that term is entered in search box. It s the one thing most users are looking for! FIX IT!

I agree with others. I want this to succeed. I like the sample questions and the guidance preparing for the interview. My 8 year old just interviewed her grandfather and we got a gold mine of information but we cant seem to play back the interview. I am trusting that its in here somewhere so please fix this so its not all for naught.

Very inflexible software. You cant edit questions after they are created, pause recording without losing everything including your questions, or restart an interview once started. After spending several hours setting up custom questions, we had to stop the interview for a break and lost everything. This application is more trouble than it is worth.

Was very excited about the app and the great listen but like most reviewers here, I have had zero success getting this to work. Every upload fails. The one that I did upload successfully was erased by their server after it was briefly in there. $1.6 million spent on this? Major disappointment.

Does anyone know any of the sample questions? I cant seem to get the app to work.

I enjoyed the idea behind recording an interview, which I did. However, I tried THREE times to upload the interview and it would not work. I rebooted my phone, the app, and I plugged my phone in in case it was in need of more battery...none of them worked. Extremely frustrating, as this was only supposed to take "a few minutes" as the app said, and I timed my last try...it took 57 minutes for the bar to move the slightest bit, and I mean the slightest. I essentially gave up. Too bad this was for extra credit--wouldve been lovely if it wouldve worked.

I really love the whole storycorps idea! I interviewed my grandma who has Alzheimers and I was really looking forward to playing it for my mom, but I cant play back the interview for some reason. Updated the version & it still wont work. Id love to access the interview somehow!

I just did a 36 minute interview with my mom and after it says it uploaded, the sound is gone. Just gone. It was such great tape and now Im so sad that it has vanished.

I have to do a school assignment because of this feelsbadman
